Equality and Diversity Policy Statement of Intent Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society. Petersfield Cricket Club (PCC) club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person, and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/ economic status. The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse. PCC aims to create a culture that respects and values each others’ differences. PCC sees these differences as an asset to our club as they improve our ability to meet the needs of the community in which we serve. All members and volunteers must declare their support for the objectives of their Equality and Diversity policy. They have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity. PCC will challenge discrimination and lack of opportunity in its own policy and practice and will help other organisations and individuals to do the same. Discrimination PCC believes that discrimination can take one or more of the forms set out below:- Direct discrimination in treating one person less favourably than another in the same or similar circumstances; or Indirect discrimination where there is a requirement or condition which applies equally to everyone but which, in practice, has an adverse impact on a particular group and cannot be justified. Discrimination in any form whether, abuse, harassment or victimisation, directly or indirectly is unacceptable, regardless of whether there was any intention to discriminate or not. Arrangements PCC believes that no person or group should be treated less favourably within PCC because of the reasons given in the Statement of Intent. PCC will promote equality and diversity in all its activities, whether within the club or with outside agencies or individuals. All volunteers within PCC will be required to support our Equality and Diversity policy. PCC will make every effort to ensure that premises used in relation to cricket are accessible and inviting for all members of the community. Copies of this policy will be freely available to volunteers, members and any other interested parties. Monitoring and Implementation Monitoring of the Equality and Diversity policy and its implementation is the responsibility of the committee. The committee will review the policy annually. A copy of the Equality and Diversity policy will be available to all members of PCC on request. All committee members will affirm their commitment to the Equality and Diversity policy. The committee’s membership should aim to reflect a fair balance and representation of the local community and should endeavour to redress any imbalance of under-represented groups. |
