PETERSFIELD CRICKET CLUB Code of Conduct Spectators
Parents, Guardians and Carers• Do not force an unwilling child to participate in cricket. • Remember children are involved in cricket for their enjoyment, not yours. • Encourage your child to play to the Laws of the Game and not to argue with umpires and other officials. • Teach your child that honest effort is more important than victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. • Turn losing into winning by helping your child work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a game. • Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and members of the opposition. • Do not question the umpire's judgment or honesty. Remember he/she is only human with the same feelings as you and, like you, sometimes may make an honest error. • Do not question a Club coach about tactics or team selection in front of others. Feel free to do so in private, but remember their decision is final. • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children's cricket. • Recognise the value and importance of coaches who are all volunteers. They give their time and resources to provide cricket for your child. • Read the Laws of the Game to understand better what you are looking at and commenting on. • Promote the Club’s Codes of Conduct. • Non-adherence to this code may result in your being asked to leave the grounds and /or ultimately removal from obtaining and holding Club membership • Ensure that your child arrives in good time for training and matches and is collected afterwards promptly. • Parents, guardians and carers of Under 7’s and Under 8’s must remain with their child during training sessions and matches. Players• Players should always play by the laws of the game and show sportsmanship and fair play. • Foul and abusive language will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and every player is expected to control himself or herself when representing the Club. • Umpire’s decisions will always be accepted, and match officials respected at all times. • All teammates, coaches, spectators, match officials, and players and officials of visiting clubs will be treated with respect at all times. • After every game, opposition players and match officials should be applauded and thanked. Players are required to shake hands with the officials at the end of every game. • All training sessions and games should be attended, unless with good reason. Coaches should be informed of all absences before training and games. • Play to the best of their ability and within the spirit of the game. • Players should be appropriately dressed. Protective equipment is mandatory. All Club kit should be looked after and kept clean.
